Akron Research and Technology (ART) is a privately held Northeast Ohio metallurgical testing laboratory equipped with unique expertise in researching, testing, formulating, and synthesizing both traditional metals and more exotic alloys. With a deep expertise, commitment to scientific process and standards, and an insatiable curiosity, our experienced staff can help determine the optimal metals for your specific manufacturing process and production. All in an effort to improve metal wear and functional performance.

In fact, ART is operated by the same owners as H&M Metal Processing , an Akron-based steel treating company that uses a chemical process known as Black Nitride to strengthen steel. In its ongoing business, H&M Metals identified clients who not only wanted to treat steel, but also explore the properties of other metals.

As a result, we founded ART – an innovative research company made up of material scientists, engineers and problem solvers – to examine the strength and durability of various metal substrates like titanium, vanadium, carbon steel, low-alloy steel, and aluminum. Since ART’s inception, we have earned several patents for our processes and treatments and are continually challenging convention to identify meaningful solutions for our clients.
